On November`14th, I had the pleasure of presenting a Graduate Student Provost Lecture (40 minutes) on subject matter related to my dissertation. The mission of the Provost Lecture is to offer public presentation of scholarly work for a broad audience--in other words, any member of the University or public community should be able to sit down and list to a relevant, jargon-free talk. So out the door went my media archaeology and my feminist materialism, and I tried to DO my theory rather than talk about it. This was actually a beautiful exercise that allowed me to remember that my favorite work is theoretical and philosophical in form rather than in just content (McLuhan, Ann Marie Mol, Kittler). It was a blast and the results are below. Enjoy! |
